A Picture’s Worth a Thousand Words

What is Delonas saying by conjuring up this cartoon? On one hand it looks like he is calling the President a monkey and the police- Republicans, but is that all? Or is he looking at this whole process and viewing the behavior of the Republicans as KKK lynch men? Is he saying something beyond our first assumption and appalled reaction? Maybe he is very clever here…or just an idiot trying to ramp up readership over at the New York Post.

Beyond the obvious racial implications, do you see anything else that he could be saying? If so, please enlighten me. I see something completely different than in this picture and I am wondering if others see the same thing. Think about it and tell me your thoughts.

This is blatant racism. He is saying Obama is a subhuman monkey–and that he should be killed. Delonas should be immediately fired. This could be construed as hope for an assassination. The president should of course be criticized, but this is just sick.

I agree that it can be construed as hope for an assassination, but I’d like to add that President Obama was elected by the people…a representative of our nation as a whole, so what does this picture say about Republicans and the people? Does it say that Republicans think that Americans are sub-human primates and that we don’t know how to choose what is best for us? Are the undertones of this cartoon depicting a provocative look at the at the last eight years of Republican bullying and abuse of power now coming to a head?

The Post is owned by Rupert Murdock… who also owns Fox News.

    That’s enough said.

It’s rather disgusting and distasteful. Although of all the papers in New York, the Post is where I’m not surprised it ended up…

    Hi Cait,
YUP! Rupert Murdock…so glad you mentioned that.

Well, I am neither republican or democrat and believe both parties are extremely biased and corrupted. Having said that, I cannot blame this on the republicans as a whole; that’s like saying all men are after only one thing, or that all women are gold-diggers. I think most republicans are offended by this as well . . . except fools like Rush Limbaugh and other right wing zealots. I blame the author of that comic, The Washington post for publishing such tripe, and any person who finds it inoffensive.

The republican party has become something other than what it’s supposed to be. George W. Bush was not conservative. He was a war monger and haphazard spending idiot–and that’s not what a republican is supposed to be. I am an old school libertarian with extremist liberal views. I oppose all war (unless purely for defense) and believe in individualism & democracy:)

I love you Bobby! I’m glad to see another Libertarian with extremist liberal views gracing my blog.

I don’t blame all Republicans. I’m dating one.

I blame one Republican - Rupert Murdock for letting that garbage be approved for publication in an enterprise he owns.

And Fox News is a bunch of bull doogie too. If you want the real news, tune into the BBC. They at least know what they’re talking about.

I love the BBC and also Link TV.

Not all Republicans are bad…I just feel that many have lost their way. I have to say the same for Democrats too.

Am I on the same wavelength? I find it racist, and definitely NOT funny. I saw on the news people protesting outside the New York Times office…not surprised by that at all.

er..apologies to the Times.Meant to write Post. Like Cait,I listen to the BBC world service. They always have balanced and fair interviews.

Hi Angela. This goes beyond politics. Every American should be outraged by this. I did not vote for Obama but he is my President and this crosses the line. Delonas and the New York Post should be ashamed. There are no words for my disgust.

Before I read the paragraphs that follow the cartoon, my thoughts were that the cartoonist was making fun of the chimp that those cops had to kill for attacking that woman. That the stimulus passage was written by a monkey (meaning a dumb person).

My mind did NOT go to any thoughts of racism until I read the whole post and read the comments.

    But that’s just me.
